Located across China, BrainMaps Learning Centers use the neuroscience-based Fast ForWord® and Reading Assistant™ learning programs to accelerate English proficiency
OAKLAND, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--#K12--By basing its approach on the Fast ForWord and Reading Assistant programs from Scientific Learning Corp. (OTC PINK:SCIL), a Shanghai-based company has found the key to meeting China’s insatiable demand for English language learning programs. Just last year BrainMaps, named a 2016 top 10 franchise in China by Entrepreneur magazine, doubled the number of its learning centers from 25 to 50 and is moving forward with plans to open 50 additional centers in China within 12 months.
With centers in 13 cities including Beijing, Shenzhen, and Shanghai, BrainMaps uses the Fast ForWord and Reading Assistant programs at the core of its learning center model, which helps children ages 5-16 quickly achieve English proficiency. Unlike traditional English language learning programs, Fast ForWord and Reading Assistant address three critical steps for English language proficiency: preparing the brain to “hear” the sounds of English; providing intensive practice in English vocabulary, grammar and reading skills; and giving students the opportunity to practice speaking and reading English aloud with real-time corrective feedback.
BrainMaps’ success can be attributed to its unique, flipped classroom approach wherein students work on the Scientific Learning programs at home and visit a learning center once a week to participate in problem- and project-based learning, guided reading, and performance recitals. With this learning model, students achieve high levels of English proficiency in as little as three years, while improving their creativity, communication, collaboration, and critical thinking skills.
BrainMaps was founded by Rick Lee and Tiffany Koo, who are using their experience as national directors for companies such as Wall Street English and Gymboree to rapidly expand the BrainMaps model across China. “Our long-term partnership with Scientific Learning has given us the opportunity to build a durable, scalable, and effective learning center model that delivers real results to Chinese youngsters seeking to learn English to improve their futures,” said Lee.
“BrainMaps has done an excellent job combining our neuroscience-based software with an instructional model that produces concrete results for students,” said Robert C. Bowen, CEO of Scientific Learning. “We look forward to the continued expansion of BrainMaps Learning Centers throughout China.”
